I want to give the mother a big gift; something that’s both useful but also something that can be kept for keepsake. That’s why I think the ideal gift would be a gift hamper as it has useful clothing, but blankets and teddies that can be kept forever.

I can only think of MotherCare and Mamas&Papas.

Anything else?

Also, I would appreciate any other ideas for gifts. Thanks.

That is a lovely idea but my experience of gift hampers is they have a lot of packing in them and cost wayyyy more than the contents.

There are loads of websites that do them but if I were you I’d make one up yourself. You can get a lovely wicker basket from such shops as Dunhelm Mill (if you have one) and could line it with a lovely soft blanket and put in the following:

Layette (vests, little socks, baby gros, shawl, hat, mitts)
Cute outfit
Baby toiletries (cream, powder, lotion, bubble bath, shampoo)
Teddy
Muslin squares
Photo album
Cuddle cloth/comforter
Nappies
Wipes

Also, it’s nice to have things for the mum. Bath soak, hand cream, scented candles, bottle of bubbly, choccies — anything girly :)

If you want someone else to do the hard work, Sprogbox do online baby hamper things:

IM 13 weeks prego TODAY! =]]
yeahhh. lol and i wanted to know when i register for the babies at stores.
and how that works, what is that for? like when you have the babby shower or something? so people like in ur family can take a look at it and maybe buy some of the stuff? but is it only for the baby shower or HOW DOES THAT WORK AND WHEN DO I DO IT?

when you find out what your having go to whatever store you are registering at. i did target and babies r us, because some of my guests were from out of town and there wasnt a babies r us close to them. they will have you register with all your information and then they give you a scanner and you walk around the store and choose the things you want. your baby shower should be till around 33-37 weeks. but you can register whenever you want. and you could always go back and add or remove some things if you choose. at babies r us, whatever you register for and dont get at your shower, after you have your baby they give you 10% off of the rest of the things.

good luck momma!!!!!

My brother asked me to be the godmother of his soon to be born baby girl. I am not Catholic so I am pretty unfamiliar with this, what would be an appropriate Christening gift?

my friend chose one of her oldest friends to be the godmother for her daughter and this is what she did……

She bought a ring for Katie (mom) to wear until the baby is old enough to have her confirmation, where the ring will then be presented to the daughter. That way she isn’t giving her something arbitrary, the ring will then become a heirloom to be passed down through generations.

I though it was a beautiful idea, but not sure if it fits your budget.

which name do you put on the diaper bag im totally confused about this? thanks

Whichever one you want! I’m not sure there’s really a rule. I would put the child’s name/initials. This way, if the child is ever at a play date or child care, its quick to see which diaper bag is his. When you go to get it done or to pick up the supplies, you could always ask the sales associate what other people do the most. Good luck.

We are having a baby shower and I was looking for something special or unusual (not a hamper or car seat). Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Two GOOD baby shower GIFT IDEAS:

You can get her a wicker basket at Wal-mart for $3 and fill it with baby Johnson & Johnson products, wipies & a package of Newborn Pampers or anything you can think of to fill it. Most of these products go on sale from time to time at HEB or your local stores…just look out for those sales if you have time. Also, at the baby sales section you can find lots of little things you can put in it. Then wrap it with see through plastic (like the Easter Baskets have) & tie it with ribbon on top & put a bow on it. You can also add about 3 helium balloons. They are a big hit at the showers I attend/throw & everyone now looks forward to that gift!! (These average from $25-$50.)

A personalized diaper cake. They are really easy to make. (If I can do it, you can to!!) Here’s a helpful link that I used. (I did the Diaper Cake Type A in a Precious Moment theme which the mommy-to-be had picked out. Big hit to!!) You can either make it a Generic “Baby” theme or find out the mommy-to-be’s theme & add some of those little items to it. (These average from $15-$25.) Have fun! ;o)

I spent a lot of time tryinmg to come up with some practical gifts for my 22 month old for Christmas and her birthday which is one month later.
I thought of four nice gifts and will give her two at Christmas and two on her birthday. My husband seems to think we’ve gone over the top but I think they are good items that she will get use out of, some for years to come. I don’t feel we’ve gotten her too much.
1. A Radio Flyer bike w/ parent steering
2. A set of blocks
3. A doll
4. A toddler sized chair and table set
Other members of the family will probably give her some things too. But her grandparents aren’t the type to go too crazy.
What do you think?

I think you’re making some wise choices and not going overboard at all.

When ours were young, we gave them three gifts because Jesus received three gifts from the wise men. It was hard to keep it to just three. Those did not include their stockings which we filled with stuff, too.

When you love a child, it’s so hard not to lavish them with gifts! But you’re NOT going overboard! She’s a lucky little girl!

Have a Merry Christmas! :)

am looking for ideas. It’s a boy. I do not want to spend lots of money. Please help me with any ideas!!!

Thank you,

I’m not sure if you’re asking about favors for a baby shower or if you are trying to select a meaningful present for a baby shower.

If you are asking about favors, don’t get any. People have enough junk and generally take that stuff home and toss it. Save your money.

If you are asking about a gift, buy a special baby spoon. Most department stores and baby stores have a nice selection with a wide range of prices.

Do you know what myrrh is ?

Myrrh is a red-brown resinous material, the dried sap of the tree Commiphora myrrha, native to Somalia and the eastern parts of Ethiopia. The sap of a number of other Commiphora and Balsamodendron species are also known as myrrh, including that from Commiphora erythraea (sometimes called East Indian myrrh), Commiphora opobalsamum and Balsamodendron kua. Its name is derived from the Hebrew murr or maror, meaning "bitter".

Myrrh is currently used in some liniments, healing salves that may be applied to abrasions and other minor skin ailments. It is also used in the production of Fernet Branca.

Myrrh is a constituent of perfumes and incense, was highly prized in ancient times, and was often worth more than its weight in gold. In ancient Rome myrrh was priced at 5 times as much as frankincense, though the latter was far more popular. Myrrh was burned in ancient Roman funerals to mask the smell emanating from charring corpses. It was said that the Roman Emperor Nero burned a year’s worth of myrrh at the funeral of his wife, Poppaea.
