I’ve been using paper towels and clean water to wipe my baby, but I’m now seeing that cloth wipes may be a lot cheaper, and better for the environment.
So what do you recommend? How do you wash them? The thought of putting a messy washcloth in the hamper with our dirty clothes is awful, so do I keep a separate hamper for the wipes?
Any suggestions on what kind of cloths to use? Just soft washcloths?
Hmm. Maybe I could just use cloth for the wet diapers, and continue using paper towels for poopy diapers. Hmmm.
Thank you for the help!
Actually, wet paper towels are just as soft as wipes, and they don’t have any chemicals on them. Once a day I wash her bottom with baby wash. The paper towels are much cheaper than wipes, and I don’t have to worry about chemicals.
I use the cheap baby washcloths you can get at any department store. They’re just the right size, and they have a smooth side, which is very gentle on baby skin. And, since I run the cloth under warm water just before a diaper change, the baby always has nice warm wipes.
Unless the wipe is really poopy, I don’t worry about rinsing it; it comes out in the wash.
I toss them, and my cloth diapers, in a garbage pail with a tight-fitting pop-up lid and wash them every 2-3 days. A cold rinse first, then hot water with regular detergent (use about half the recommended amount to avoid soap build-up in diapers, which can get really stinky), and an extra rinse will get them good and clean.
If you’re only using the washcloths for wet diapers and you’re not using cloth diapers — toss them in with your regular towel load. Pee is basically sterile, and there will hardly be any on the washcloth anyway. (I keep a bucket in the laundry room just for washcloths and hand towels. To keep them from getting stinky, I hang them over the side of the bucket to dry, then drop them in. When the bucket is full, it’s time to wash a load of towels.)
My son turns 2 in early September. I feel like a bed would be a great birthday gift and a good time to start the transition. This is my first child and I am not sure what most parents do. Any advice? He has always been good at going to bed and waking up happy. He is all around a great kid. I feel like this would make him happy. Oh… and how do you transition? Can we do naps on the bed and night time in the crib for a few weeks? Help Please.
I put both of my child in a toddler bed when they were 2. That is a good age. That would be a good gift for your child’s b-day. You can have him look at sheets for the bed they have a lot more choices for toddler bed and the child can help pick out what they like for there room. My kids made a good transition in to the bed. The first night was little ruff. They were not sure about it. But once they got into the bed and went to sleep they were fine. Just make sure that it has side rail on it, just because the child is use to it and will feel comfortable with them. And you don’t have to worrier about him falling out of the bed. best of luck.
I was not raised Catholic so I do not know the etiquette (my husband is Catholic). We are having my son baptised and my husband’s sister and brother-in-law are going to be the godparents. They are traveling from the next state to come for his baptism. Is it customary to give the godparents a gift? I certainly appreciate all they are doing.
I agree with the top answer, usually the godparents give a gift to the child. However, there is no reason why you can’t give your loved ones a gift when you want to. I know having a remembrance of such a serious thing as a christening and naming of godparents will be good for them too.
So I will be having my 3rd in Oct. In our house we do birthdays and christmas BIG — I want to be able to have a gift (or more) for the newborn (no we don’t know the sex), we have so many "baby" toys from my 2 older ones, in storage that there’s really nothing "new" on the market. The Only thought i had was the V.Smile Baby Game System….we have the toddler one.
Thoughts? Does anyone Love the Baby system? Anyone have another idea??
I think now is the perfect age for an heirloom gift of some kind. A beautiful child sized rocking chair or wooden toy chest with their name on it, etc. Something that they can have for the years to come and pass down to their children!
My twin girls are almost 4 months old and I would really like to keep their footprints and maybe handprints in their baby books as keepsakes, but I have no idea how to do it. Years ago, I guess hospitals did it but they don’t anymore, at least not around here. What is a safe way to do it? It would have to be non-toxic, safe and also durable. Not something that will fade away.
Any tips about how to do it would be appreciated! Thank you!
they still do foot printing at hospitals for identification, it’s required.i had to ask for a set for my last child, they are jerks about giving them to you for some reason.anyway i use acrylic paint to do my children’s feet. it’s safe to use but be careful not to get it on clothing as it is very hard to wash out of clothing.it washes off hands and feet very easily.we do the kids feet and hands at every birthday to mark their growth
So I have a baby shower to go to soon and I need some creative ideas for gifts. I love making things to make the gift more personal. I have done the bath tub with all the bath items, diaper cake with toys and diapering needs, done the basket with feeding needs. Does anyone have any other good ideas? I don’t want to do something I have done before. They do not know what they are having yet (as far as boy or girl) but the registry shows moon & star and duck themes. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!
For my daughter, the gift I thought was pretty cool was a piggie bank. A friend of the family brought a piggie bank and put money in it. He then passed it around to anyone who wanted to contribute. That was years ago and that money is currently in a bank account for my daughter. We still use the piggy bank and she loves to put change into her piggie bank.
For my son, whom I am pregnant with now, my sister is hand knitting him a baby blanket. I think that is pretty cool.
The gift I found most useful was a gift card for $240. That away I do not have to worry about returning things if they are not the right stuff and I have the money to buy baby essentials.
What is the best solution for battery operated Baby Items ?
{Its almost like What doesnt take batteries, Everything does ! }
So what is the best solution ? I need Batteries for the Pack N Play, Bassinet, Monitor, Swing, Crib Light, Crib Mobile, Crib Music thing & I know iM forgetting some items..
Should i buy a Huge pack of disposable ones if so What brand ? Or should I buy rechargeable ones & a Recharger ??
This will only ratchet up as you enter the world of children’s toys. I recommend bulk packs of middling-to-decent brands of batteries from a store like Costco, stored in an easily accessible drawer in the same place as a couple of the small screwdrivers you need to open the battery compartments…
Rechargeables have never lasted long enough for me to make the hassle worth it.
Where online can I find large amounts of trial sized baby products, like baby wash, lotion, diaper cream, they have to be the small trial sized so I can use them for travel.
You could try http://babytobee.excellentabc.com . I was able to get all kinds of free samples of baby products. They also had a lot of good coupons.
Hope this helps you
