Hi there, I would like to sew and sell baby bibs and other baby items. It’s important for me to really make products that moms are looking for and I’d like your opinions. :) Would you prefer snaps or velcro on your baby bibs? (I have a 12 month old, and I vote for snaps but my husband votes velcro so I need more opinions!) Also… What other baby/mommy items would you like to see on the market that aren’t out yet (that could be sewn)? Thank you very much for your answers!
oops! I meant to say "velcro"

My MIL sends us bibs from new zealand and they ROCK! I have never seen bibs like them here ( in Canada) They have neither velcro or snaps, but are rectangular shaped (with rounded edges) and have a hole that you put the baby’s head through. Kind of like a t-shirt opening. Does that even make sense?! LOL So they are covered in the front , and even a bit on the sides/shoulders. And because the opening is stretchy like a t-shirt it is super comfy ( no itchy velcro) AND it gets right in close under their chins ( the elastic-ey part is actually wider than the t-shirt kind of neck elastic, so it covers really well- more like a crew neck or semi-turtleneck??

Good grief I’m not explaining this right! haha. It’s just a pull-over-their-head kind of bib.

ok -found a picture osomethingng similar…

http://www.blisstree.com/breastfeeding123/free-pattern-to-sew-your-own-crew-neck-over-the-head-baby-bib/

now- all the bibs I have are cotton. if they get the least bit wet they soak right through. I would love a bib that was a bit plastic-ey on the underside but soft and cotton-ey on the top side… AND went over the head :) Not sure if that’s possible since they have to be pretty stretchy to fit over al sorts of head sizes!

my biggest irk are bibs that don’t come up far enough under the chin - too loose. Then the top of baby’s shirt gets all gross.

oh- and snaps are better than velcro :)

good luck!

I love to shop clothing for my children clothes..lol

I love shopping at Old Navy, Gap, JC Penney and Sears

I also love but can’t go to very often cause the closest stores near us are 3 hours away:
Childrens place, Gymboree, Macys

I could go on and on..lol

For my girls Gymboree, Old Navy and Gap are my favorite brands.
I shop mostly on Ebay and once in a while on the store websites, since our mall really stinks and doesn’t have any of those stores!
For my son I shop mostly at Murdoch’s ( a ranch supply store). He loves to wear his cowboy jeans and button up shirts with the occasional John Deere T shirt thrown in for good measure lol.

What’s the "50 Cent feat. Ne-Yo - Baby By Me" song with the funky music remix? It’s played on 97.1 a lot and it’s not the same one as the music video on youtube. Please help me find it!

The version featuring Ne-Yo is the only remix I know of. the song you heard was probably just a remix they did themselves. they put rap songs over different beats sometimes.

i dont get baby shoes (for babys not walking). i lived with my cousin she would put the shoes on her baby and 10 min later they were off. and they were so annoying/frustrating/hard to put on to begin with. and every time we changed her it was a 10 min process between getting them on and off. she even kicked one off at the mall and it is gone forever. there goes 10 bucks.

i got about 6 pairs of infant shoes as gifts when i had my son. where is he going that he needs the shoes for? i guess for a formal picture you cant just wear socks b ut do you know how long it took me to find a formal shoe and how much it cost when i did? are they hoping that sometime soon a newborn is going to walk?? i started walking at 8 months so i see why they make shoes for babys 6 months + but why newborns?

I agree with you. for a formal time then its okay. My MIL is always asking me " where’s her shoes?" … its like okay she’s a baby she doesn’t walk why would she want shoes. They just bother her. When i have put them on her she just kicks and kicks until they are off. My fam has bought her a few pair of shoes and i will put them one once when they are around just so they see she wore them at least once. My sis gave her new born shoes and i put them on her so my sis can see and she only wore them that one time and now they don’t fit. lol.. I will put some one when she walks obviously but she don’t need them now. They want to be comfortable. Like you say they are hard to get on too. lol

I bought 2, one for my daughter and one for my nephew. They were expensive! Only to find out that Grandma bought the same ones. So I decided to take mine back. However, Hallmark doesn’t do returns on Keepsake Ornaments. I have the B is for Babies (and Booties) and the Classic Pooh Baby’s First Christmas. Does anyone want them? They were $15 and $18.50. Or, does anyone know of any other place that carries Hallmark Ornaments?

No, I don’t need one. But try listing them on Craigslist!

my son can only drink out of the silicon ones and i had a nuk one that i got as a baby shower gift it was a little bulky but he could drink out of it but it was hard to clean cause it had a little area around the top inside that was hard to get to and while cleaning it with a nipple brush it poked through the middle causing the hole to tear and i had to throw it away. so any advice on a less bulky easier to clean one?

Hi! I suggest using the the Nuby Gripper Sippy Cup. Awesome cup! Also, you should probably get these brushes to clean your spouts: http://www.sippystuff.com/cleaning_brush/

They are also great for when you transition to straw cups later on.
Let me know what you think.

When I found out my sister was pregnant I set aside a certain amount for gifts. I have spent all but $45 and I am not sure what else to get her. So far I have gotten her a highchair, stroller, walker, lamp, rug, trash can, crocheted blanket, baby book, crib and bassinet sheets, baby wipes, diapers, play gym, safety locks, crocheted bibs, sippy cup, food storage containers, and a water temp duck. I know this sounds like a lot, but she is my younger sister and I have always loved spoiling her. What else should I get her for $45? Thank You!
Susan: The crocheted blankets I made has his name on them.

What a great sister!

I would say either a bouncy chair or newborn rocker as sometimes you just need somewhere safe to put your child down:

Newborn/Toddler Rocker:

A Bumbo Chair is also a fun and useful gift, but we found our twins outgrew it fast and could not use it until they had good neck control:

at what age did you start taking your infant out of the car seat and putting him/her in the seat of the shopping cart?

As soon as he could sit unsupported. My advice is to buy a shopping cart/highchair cover they sell them at Wal-mart. They are great because as soon as baby’s start teething they want anything & everything in their mouth & there are TONS of germs on buggies!!!

I’d like to know what your favorite baby products are. I’m almost 25 weeks, and feeling the need to get everything set up for a baby in May and I’d like to know what you use and couldn’t live without! Please be specific. Diaper brands, baby carriers, wipes, bedding, diaper pails, mattresses (foam vs coils? Brands?), changing pads, anything you have that you find helpful and convenient to use on or with your babies. The more info and details the better.

Thanks for reading and answering! All comments are appreciated!

Diapers- Huggies all the way
Wipes- Huggies (absolutly hate the way pampers wipes feel…they are scratchy).
If you want to save a couple extra bucks…Costco has their own brand (Kirkland signature) and they are manufactured by huggies, so they are actually huggie products with a different name at a cheap price

Baby Carrier- Infantino front 2 back rider—-It’s great, veratile, and comfortable. Can wear on your front with baby facing in or out, and when baby is older can be worn on your back. Very nice thick padded straps very supportive, and best of all. It’s only about $30.

Wipe Warmer- Couldn’t live with out it…sounds so ridiculous, but it’s one of those "Must Haves". I have the one made by Prince LionHeart, and my wipes never dry out and never turn brown…Its wonderful

Mattress- I have a seally with coils, it’s wonderful.
Diaper pail- I find useless…I have a regular small garbage can with a flip up lid. (cost $5).

CD player for the nursery- I regret not getting one, because now I have my portable dvd player in there to play the lullabye cd’s. The white noise really helps them fall asleep. As soon as I put some soft music on, he’s immediatly relaxed and asleep within minutes

Humidifier- Any kind will work fine. I have the Elephant one from babies r us, I love it…It’s soooo cute, and very quiet, a breeze to fill, and gives out a good amount of mist. Also has an automatic shut off safety feature in case it runs out of water. ($42)

BebeSounds By Graco Battery Operated Nasal aspirator- Those Bulb syringes are a huge pain in the butt. I Recommend this product to Everyone, and anyone I know that has it…absolutly loves it. It’s a True MUST HAVE. ($20)

Changing pads and bedding, I went relativly cheap. Sheets are sheets. And a baby is only on a changing table for a few minutes at a time. I really think the $100 changing pads are absurd. I bought mine for like $30. Sheets I bought whatever was on sale, and if you don’t mind plain white, you can get a 2 pack for like $9 a walmart.
I do recommend the waterproof pads for under all your bedding, this way if there’s ever an accident, the matress doesn’t get wet. I use the waterproof pads on my changing tables, bassinet, pack n play, and crib. They come in many different sizes ranging from $10 for 2, and the big fitted ones for the crib are about $10 each.
I found my bassinet to be useless, as my son outgrew it in 2 months. I didn’t even want one, but got it as a gift. I was just going to use my pack n play with the bassinet insert in my room, which is what I had to do for about a month anyway after he outgrew the bassinet.

Baby emery boards are wonderful. I was very scared to use nail clippers when he was a newborn, and my son would not keep those lil mits on his hands, no matter what I did he found a way to get them off and scratch his face. So instead of cutting them, I filed them down with little emery boards and never had to worry about cutting his little fingers

Make sure you have a good thermometer. Up until the age of 3 months, the only accurate way to take a baby’s temp is rectally. After 3 months old, their ear canals are large enough to get an accurate ear reading.

Baby Monitor- A must have! I love the one I have b/c all three peices can run on batter power (including the base), it comes with 2 receivers. It has 2 channels, and I never have interference. It lights up when baby makes noise so you can see activity even if the volume is off. The base has a digital thermometer on it so you always know the temperature of the baby’s room.

Huge Diaper bag and bottle cooler bag. I love my ginormous bag that holds everything I could ever need. As long as I don’t overpack with clothes, it’s even big enough to fit my cooler bag and 2 cans of formula.

Several baby blankets and an average crib and stroller? Thanks.

I’m in Canada, and actually, Zeller’s is having an awesome deal right now.
Travel System (car seat and stroller) only $99, and it’s soooo pretty (pink flowers). And some others for like $150. Usually like $200, though (for the travel system).
I got my crib and mattress given to me, but usually $150-$200 is enough for both.
Blankets..depends. Again, here, Zeller’s has a pack of 4 for only $10. I also found some really cute ones at the dollar store, $2 each.
