Hi there, I would like to sew and sell baby bibs and other baby items. It’s important for me to really make products that moms are looking for and I’d like your opinions.
Would you prefer snaps or velcro on your baby bibs? (I have a 12 month old, and I vote for snaps but my husband votes velcro so I need more opinions!) Also… What other baby/mommy items would you like to see on the market that aren’t out yet (that could be sewn)? Thank you very much for your answers!
oops! I meant to say "velcro"
My MIL sends us bibs from new zealand and they ROCK! I have never seen bibs like them here ( in Canada) They have neither velcro or snaps, but are rectangular shaped (with rounded edges) and have a hole that you put the baby’s head through. Kind of like a t-shirt opening. Does that even make sense?! LOL So they are covered in the front , and even a bit on the sides/shoulders. And because the opening is stretchy like a t-shirt it is super comfy ( no itchy velcro) AND it gets right in close under their chins ( the elastic-ey part is actually wider than the t-shirt kind of neck elastic, so it covers really well- more like a crew neck or semi-turtleneck??
Good grief I’m not explaining this right! haha. It’s just a pull-over-their-head kind of bib.

now- all the bibs I have are cotton. if they get the least bit wet they soak right through. I would love a bib that was a bit plastic-ey on the underside but soft and cotton-ey on the top side… AND went over the head
Not sure if that’s possible since they have to be pretty stretchy to fit over al sorts of head sizes!
my biggest irk are bibs that don’t come up far enough under the chin - too loose. Then the top of baby’s shirt gets all gross.
oh- and snaps are better than velcro
good luck!

Totally SNAPS!!
Velcro is too easy from them to pull off, so snaps all the way then they cannot pull them off. I always go for my bibs with snaps now, my son will just pull off the velcro ones!

I personally prefer snaps. After washing a few times, the velcro becomes so worn-out and does not function properly.
The only thing I do not like about snaps, is I have to be really careful not to snap my daughter’s hair in.

I vote snaps because my son can pull off any bib with velcro. If the velcro area is big enough, that is fine, but most bibs he can pull off easily. They also get things stuck in them in the wash sometimes (strings), and get stuck to other clothing in the wash as well. So I prefer bibs with snaps, but that is just me.
Another things that doesn’t have many options that I’d like to see more of are those cart covers. The ones you put on a shopping cart to entertain and keep baby safe. I have one that is awesome, but I can’t find anything like it anywhere! It has toys and is a little padded in case he falls over (or in my son’s case, lays down or tries to climb out). Good luck to you!

Snaps are the best.
with velcro:
- it stops being affective over time
- it can irritate baby’s skin
- bibs get stuck together in the washing machine making hanging the laundry a more time consuming task then you’d like considering you only have a split second to do it once your baby is on the move

i say velcro…. the issue with snaps are 1.you’d have to watch if you pulled it right out of the dryer the metal would be very hot, 2. if somehow it came loose from repeated washing it could post a choking hazard, 3. some snaps are very strong and it takes a lot to unsnap them, this can pose a strangulation hazard if the baby is walking/crawling around and gets it caught on something, velcro would be more likely to just rip away lowering the chances of strangulation, 4. it is hard to make velcro unusable, like even if you get hair or fuzz in it you can pick it out, whereas if you use snaps and the snaps come off, most likely the bib is done for….

def snaps!!
velcro the baby can pull off too easily, can become totally useless over time from being worn out, and sometimes caused irritation on my baby’s neck

Snaps, like everyone else said, velcro is too easy to undo. I also like the bibs with the strings that you tie up. I find that the neck area of the bib tends to stretch over time but with the strings it can be tightened and they don’t stretch. I also like the bibs that are very large and cover most of the baby, especially for starting solids like I have done recently. Good luck with your new business venture.

Everyone seems to be saying snaps, because it is what is most convenient for them. What happens if your baby’s bib gets caught on something? Wouldn’t you prefer something that is going to come undone easily, rather than something that will choke the baby?
Velcro is definately safer. Babies CAN be taught not to take their bibs off if parents are willing to put in the effort. If they are done up properly when put on they do not irritate the skin. If you do the bibs up before putting them in the wash it stops them from getting caught on other things.
If you are making them to sell to other people though, why not do both and let the mothers choose?
