I’m putting together a gift basket for my friend’s baby shower, and I’d like to go with a ‘food’ theme– lots of things she needs to feed her newborn/baby/toddler. I’m going to get stuff off her registry, like the boppy, placement, bibs, sippy cups, bottles, spoons, etc, but do you have any ideas of how I can creatively package this gift? Just a big basket? I like to make the container that I package my gifts in something useful as well. If you have any ideas of what might look cute in a basket like this, please let me know. I was thinking of including some jars of baby food, etc.
If you are going with a ‘food’ type of theme, why not put it in a picnic basket? Get a little checked blanket (blue for boy pink for girl) just like the red ones you see at picnics and stuff. And fill it with all the registry stuff and food items. She would think it was adorable! I would love that for my newborn!

You could get one of those Moses baskets. They’re about the same price as just large baskets but at least this way it’s more baby themed and she could use it if she wanted.

Get the big bottle banks. You can fill it up with everything and tie a bow around it.

I really like the picnic basket idea.
Here lately, I’ve been putting gifts in the reusable grocery bags stores are selling. I did this for a baby shower last weekend, actually. I went to Babies R Us & they sold them. You can make this fit the food theme by saying/indicating the bag can be used when she buys food for the new baby.
It’s cost efficient, too. The gift bags at Babies R Us were around $5, but the reusable grocery bag was only $1.50.

I think that is a cute idea, bottles, bottle brush, tupperware items, plate, cup, bowls, burp rags, Wipes, toss and go bibs, baby net things (they are a net like thing you place food in and the baby gums the food to mush) attached to handle and they can not coke on the piece of food . They have little coolers to hold food in.
You could always place it in a large plastic bin, laundry basket, that can be used for toys, cloths, later.

I use a basket (like this: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3478722) on my changing table next to the changing pad to hold and organize baby essentials such as baby wipes, lotions, etc). Maybe use that basket then cover with clear plastic and tie with a nice bow.
Baby food is a great idea but keep in mind that babies won’t start on baby food until they’re 4-6 months old. Baby food items may include the following: baby rice cereal, jarred baby food, cereal puffs, crackers.
If you want to stick with food though, I would suggest a care package for the mom-to-be. Maybe snacks that she loves since once she gives birth, she would be tired and would not have much time for herself. I know would have appreciated that when I was a brand new mom

If you are planning a food themed shower then what about making a baby cake? You roll baby washcloths, stand them up in a circle around some of the harder placed items on a tray, tie a bow around it and decorate it with the spoons for candles. Creatively display one of the bibs with sayings on the "cake" like you would normal writing on the cake….I have seen it done with diapers but prefer the ones made with baby washcloths.
