I’m 15 weeks pregnant, and a few people have asked when my husband and I will register for gifts. When is the typical time to do this? We don’t find out the sex for another 4 weeks, but perhaps we could start registering now, and then add more gender-specific items later?

Also, WHAT items are good to register for? Anything that you wish you would have registered for? Thanks!

My sister in law waited til she was 7 months to do the registry. Here’s a list of stuff that was on her registry:

I have a 1 1/2 week old nephew that I am shopping for, looking for cute onesies, personalized gifts, or room decor - any suggestions - something reasonably priced. I’ve found some cute sites, but the onesies were like $25 plus shipping! He has so many aunts and uncles buying him gifts and TONS of clothes already, i’d really like to get something unique.

I saw a toy in a magazine, by a company called Haba. Googled Haba - and it led me to some really good sites with US made baby items and toys. Also try Boden and Hanna Anderson, they have some really soft jammies.

You can never go wrong with books though, if they’re religious, there’s one called God Made You, its got a polar bear on the cover.
Otherwise, get Richard Scarry’s Biggest Book ever. I think its right over $25 so would qualify for free shipping at least on amazon.

I’m trying to set up a business selling good quality yet affordable baby gifts and products but finding it hard to get a supplier in Ireland. A lot of the companies will only let you order in bulk but that won’t help me as I want to keep stock levels low. Can anyone help?? All advice will be really appreciated

Create a registry once you find the gender of the baby. This will make everything easier since everything is gender-related these days. As long as the registry is created a couple of weeks before the baby shower, then you don’t have you worry about rushing it.

My advice to you is DON’T put baby clothes in the registry. They are the #1 thing people buy as gifts. You’ll have to many clothes and not even important baby items.

Put the most expensive items on first. You might think that no one will get it for you, but there is always that generous relative that understands your needs. A nice stroller, crib, pack ‘n play, breast pump (if you plan on breastfeeding) and so on so forth.

Why would someone NOT register 4 baby gifts on their 1st kid? how far along should you be when you register?
so, there is no issue like embarrassed they are pregnant and this isn’t a 2nd or 3rd kid, so they don’t have any baby stuff yet. why would they not register?
also, how far along should you be in your pregnancy before you should announce it and register for gifts?

General question. I am not pregnant. But I got to wondering….

? Some people don’t want to tell people what to buy. They are thankful for any gift. Around 5 months is a good time to register, especially if you know the gender.

I had always thought you should do it as soon as possible (usually with-in a week of receiving the gift) but recently two friends of mine sent them as part of the birth announcements for their babies. Is this becoming more acceptable, or should I send the Thank Yous asap? My shower was yesterday and I’m not due for another month.

You should send them right away.

Our baby is 7 weeks old, and we get random gifts from family or friends (mainly clothes or toys) - even those that attended the baby shower. Does etiquette dictate that we write thank you cards to all these people?

We did write "hand written" thank you notes to everyone that was at the shower, etc.

I am an avid thank you card writer but I have to admit that the one time you get excused from this is when you have a baby. you don’t have the time. My rule was: If the person gave it to me in person, I gushed and gushed and said thank you there no thank you card needed. Also, if I knew I was going to see the person in person, I would say thank you then - again no card. I only gave a formal thank you card when I wasn’t going to see the person any time soon. In all honesty I even just called them to say thank you which everyone appreciated much more than a card that was just going to go in recycle.

You could do what I was "going to do" but never did it due to lack of time. Order a greeting photo card through shutterfly or other online site with several of the new baby’s photos and in the generic message write…Thank you to everyone for their wonderful gifts, support and kindness. We are humbled by your generosity!" That way people get their thank you AND pics of the kiddo which you will have to send out anyway. Genius huh!

I am already starting to plan for my babies first Christmas! She will be 9 months old at Christmas, but I was thinking of getting her gifts for when she is 1yr+. What has been the best toy you have brought your 1 year old baby or what do you think I should get my little girl?
