My babys blankets always have lint on the likke balls. and i tried lint rolling it but it dont work. how can i get rid of them and how to make them not come back. they also appeare in her socks. shes 7 months =) thanks….

Some fabrics are prone to this naturally, and others get it because harsh detergents can break down the fibers to cause pilling. To get rid of what is there you need to buy a lint shaver. These actually cut the remaining fibers of the pills that attach them to the blanket (this connection is why they don’t come off with a lint roller). To prevent them in the future use as gentle a detergent as you can. Free and clear detergents like arm and hammer or seventh generation tend to work best for me on blankets and socks.

As in, unswaddled?
I’m 16, and 28 weeks pregnant, and I’ve been wondering because I have a lot of baby blankets for him, but my mom said if I let him sleep with loose blankets too soon, he could suffocate.

Also, when would you suggest washing all his clothes and such?

Thanks!

Congrats on your baby!!!! Keep away the blankets for as long as possible…. You can use them to cover him while taking a walk in the stroller but covering him is a no, no. unless you are right there, watching him as he sleeps. Your mom is right, he could suffocate. Dress him in a sleeper, while he is sleeping and lay him on his back until he learns to turn by himself which is usually about nine months. Use non perfumed detergent to care for his clothes. There are a lot of detergents made specifically for babies.

I have absolutely no idea what to do. Also, videos would be helpful. I really want to make a baby blanket for my sister who is 2 months pregnant.

http://learntocrochet.lionbrand.com is a good site. You should also check out the art of crochet by Teresa: http://crochet-mania.blogspot.com/ (she also has many YouTube videos).

At your local craft store, look for Melissa Leapman’s "I Can’t Believe I’m Crocheting" which comes in both a booklet form and a DVD form.

My friend is having a baby in a few months and i want to get her a blanket with her babies name on at a reasonable price and one that it also of good quality.

This one is only $5, it’s out of stock right now but I’m sure it should be in stock again soon. It’s not a full size blanket, but babies get so many blankets anyways that I think this is a better option. I got one for my nephew and it’s adorable.

I crocheted my first baby blanket about three years ago and donated it to some local place in need of them. Now that I’ve moved, I’m not sure where I should donate them. My dad suggested the local hospitals, but will they really use them? Is there another place that is in need of baby blankets? I can probably get done 4 in a week if I have enough yarn, so all I’m in need of is a place to give them away.

Go to this web site
http://www.coyotecommunications.com/stuff/teenvolunteers.html
and scroll down to "home-based volunteering."
There is a list of organizations there that accept home-made textile items.
You can also call your local United Way and ask if they know of local agencies that accept these items.

She just sleeps with them. Not sure if its just a comfort thing or shes just not ready to let go?

It was when she was a baby she use to take the corners and rub them across her fingers and a little bit on her ear/neck area.

Not to worry. I crocheted a peach coloured baby blanket big enough for a single bed for my nephew. He’s slept on it on the foot of his bed ever since. He’s 22. The blanket is still there.

I’m having a baby in about a month and was considering purchasing a handmade blanket. Any info would be helpful. The hospital is Baylor Medical Center in Frisco, Tx

a neat site to go to is www.etsy.com Everything they have is handmade.. I’m sure you would be able to find darling baby blankets! Just type it in and see what comes up

JC Penney used to have them but I can’t find them there any more and I couldn’t find any places online either.

Try Babies R Us. I’ve seen some there.

what works best? I go to babies r us, and all they have are swaddling blankets. I bought a video to learn to swaddle, and want to do this myself…. also any tips or tricks?

No, they are not the same.

Receiving blankets and baby blankets tend to be thicker and should not be used for swaddling. They don’t tuck well, it’s harder to use them, and the baby is more likely to overheat because the material tends to be thicker. They’re okay for wrapping a baby up, but not for swaddling.

Then there’s the commercial swaddling blankets. They’re a rip-off, using velcro and what not to hold the swaddle.

The best type of swaddling blanket is something at least 3 yards/36 inches square. You want it out of a thin cotton or muslim that has a little bit of a stretch but not too much and the edges finished. The bundling of the swaddle around the baby keeps them warm without the blanket needing to be thick, and you can always put them in a nightie under the swaddle as well. These, at Target, run $30 for a pack of 4, 42" square, so they’d work very well. But if you know someone who will finish the edges you can basically make your own just going to a fabric store and buying a 3yard square of fabric. When you use something like this, swaddling is a LOT easier because you have room to work with, and if they’re a longer baby you can still swaddle. :)

This is the swaddle we used, from Happiest Baby on the Block, and I liked it a lot. But if you don’t have enough fabric, or if you don’t have the right type of fabric, it’s hard to get it real snug.

Several baby blankets and an average crib and stroller? Thanks.

I’m in Canada, and actually, Zeller’s is having an awesome deal right now.
Travel System (car seat and stroller) only $99, and it’s soooo pretty (pink flowers). And some others for like $150. Usually like $200, though (for the travel system).
I got my crib and mattress given to me, but usually $150-$200 is enough for both.
Blankets..depends. Again, here, Zeller’s has a pack of 4 for only $10. I also found some really cute ones at the dollar store, $2 each.
