For a first baby, what are good items to consider buying gently used and why?
Likewise, which items would you highly recommend getting new?

I’d like to try to get some items from craigslist or borrow from friends. Good contenders for used items in my mind would be things that baby would very quickly outgrow, and things that can be thoroughly cleaned, etc…

What do you think? Any tips?

I would get things like sheets new. Bumper pads you could borrow from a friend-I would not get them from Craigslist.

Things like High Chair, Strollers and Johnnie Jumpers and the like it ok to get used. Just clean them throughly before using.

Handed down clothes from friends and family is fine and helpful. I know my sister in law went to second hand stores for special occasion dresses since they would only wear them for one holiday.

Bottles, dishes and spoons I would get new.

Congrats and good luck!!

Have a great day!

What baby items do I need for a newborn girl? How much of each item? I will be bottle feeding.

Clothes (onesies, pjs, hats, mittens, socks etc), blankets, burp cloths, diapers, wipes, diaper ointment, powder, grooming kit, bath stuff (wash cloths, towels, shampoo, etc) pacifiers, bottles, bottle brush, bibs,
play gym, bouncy seat, car seat, stroller, swing, crib, bassinet
It’s hard to say how much you will need of everything. You will need A LOT of diapers so the more the better. You will need a lot of burp cloths and baby clothes unless you want to wash them every single day. I have a bunch of bottles but only really use 3. But I mostly breastfeed anyway, so you might need more bottles.
Just get a basic amount of things you will need and add to it as you go.

Add: You don’t wanna use nail clippers because the nails are too soft and very hard to clip without clipping the fingertips. You should just file them in the beginning, whcih they will tell you in the hospital and show you how to do it!!! All that stuff usually comes with a grooming kit.
And about the baby powder. Maybe some people should get their facts straight. There is nothing wrong with using powder. It is even recommended, to keep the area dry. What pediatricians recommend you NOT to use is talc based baby powder. So just look for talc-free powder

I have twins so we have double of EVERYTHING, it is all in perfect condition. How do I price items for sale? I have preemie, 0-3, 3-6, 6-9, 9012, 12-18 months double sets of baby outfits. I have 2 swings, bouncy chairs, etc etc.

Where is best to sell?
Garage sale, consignment, ebay?

All garage sales I’ve been to usually price their clothes around 10-25 cents per clothing item, and for bigger items, it all depends on you. I bought a rainforest jumper in great condition for $15 when they’re normally like $50-$60. People go to garage sales for cheap sales, so try not to overprice :)

As far as ebay, everything would be priced higher - only a little less then the original price. Depends on how quickly you wanna get rid of everything!

I was given a bunch of stuff to try and sell at a garage sale, and have some good quality baby items left over (clothes, a few new bottles and some sort of educational bouncer seat). I really don’t want to simply give it to just anyone on Craig’s list, and there are no nearby pregnancy centers that are still operating. Obviously people who use WIC services are lower income families, so do the WIC offices accept used baby items for the needy parents?
Thanks for the website, Carrie!

honeslty, even to get wic you cxould still have a nice chunk of income. its not like everyone who is on wic gets foodstamps and other help form the government i think you can make more then 30,000 and still receive wic. so not EVERYONE there is TOO needy. but at my local wic office there isd a bin of clothes/shoes toys whatever most of the stuff always looks so old and worn down. i would donate to a church before wic

I just turn 20 weeks today, so I am half way there. When should I start buying baby items. When did u start. I some start really early and others wait til after their baby shower. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

i started buying thing when i was like 9 or 10 weeks.cant remember fully.but put it this way do you really want to walk around 7 or 8 months pregnant buying stuff then especially since you are going to still be pregnant in the heat just like me.i would say start now.that way you will have less running around to do when the baby bump is really huge, have fun shopping and don’t forget not to buy a million 0 to 3 months clothing because they out grow things fast.

There is a children’s resale shop in my town that buys, sells, and trades. Mostly she likes to give store credit instead of cash. I have a few items to take in. She ripped me off before but I didn’t know it at the time. So how much store credit should I expect to get for these items?

2 baby bath tubs
bumper pad with matching sheet

Items are clean and in good condition.

Depends on the demand in the your area. Bathtubs are $30 brand new at the store, So I would say maybe $15 dollars for all the item.s.

I would say aside from the things like hospital bracelets, bringing baby home from hospital outfit, I noticed I am very attached to her mobile and her crib toy that she used to gaze at when she would fall asleep.

What are some not-so-obvious baby items you would never get rid of?

Well, I have those little hats they put on them when they’re just born.

Also, my daughter has this little monkey she carries around who we started to call her "boyfriend" because she won’t go ANYWHERE without it! I’ll always save that little guy(:

When my son was around 7-8 months old and we started him on the meat foods, he would NOT eat it and was starting to spit it out when I got it in his mouth. So my partner at the time bought some of those silverwear for babies that have handles the shape of airplanes as a joke because you know how people go "VROOOM!" with the spoon to get the kid to eat it? Well, jokingly, I used them… and wouldn’t cha know it the little broot actually ate! So from then on, that was how we got him to eat new foods. I’ll never be able to get rid of them(:

The youngests are still newborns… so we’ll see(:

I am currently stationed in Germany and I live somewhere between Trier and Koblenz. I was wondering where are some stores that sell baby items. Like say for a nursery. I know of Ikea and the Toys r us across from it. Is there anywhere else? Thank you so much.

well, you can always shop online or ask the locals. maybe there is like a nuk factory outlet or something there :)
