I am travelling to Australia from Europe for my Godsons Christening. He will be 9 months old at the time. What sort of gift should i get him? Also, i am buying his outfit for the Ceremony, what should it look like? Should it be all white? His mother is young, and not into the whole long dress gowns that Babies used to wear…
Any ideas are appreciated!
Thanks!

traditionally the godmother (parents) bought the baptismal candle, the outfit, and a gift. (gets kinda pricey, doesn’t it?) i think the best gift is a child’s first bible, and it doesn’t need to be an expensive one. the one we got was child-friendly, with bright pictures and very short stories. (and, of course, a very sweet note inside from his godparents!) my boys all wore a snow-white dress shirt, pants, socks and shoes, with white-on-white patterned vest and matching bow tie. my mom sewed them so all the boys’ outfits were the same, but i found a website where you can order one. another great gift we received was a baptismal BIB! it protected his good outfit, but he was still lookin dapper! you could also buy a gold or silver cross necklace in a nice box… not to be worn but to to be carried by his wife on their wedding day.

This is my first time being a godmother and I’m so excited. I purchased my godson his outfit for his christening already. I was wondering what is else would be a good gift to get for him the day of his christening? Any suggestions would be appreciated

it’s usually tradition to get them a name bracelet for their christening with the date on the back

This is almost like the same for a wedding, but is there an appropriate word for that can be used for christening (baptism)?

just ask them or tell them that instead of a gift you would prefer money so that you can open up a savings account for the child. that is what I did. some people may take it the wrong way but other people will understand.

It is my husbands brothers child that is being christened this weekend and my husband has been asked to be godfather. For the gift we have bought a beautiful silver piano musical jewelry box, but who do i have it engraved from? Not sure if it should just be from my hubby as godfather or from the two of us as a couple, or from us and the kids too???? i was thinking just engraving to her from him on the box, but writing all names in the card. Please help, i have never been to a chirstening before and so have no idea. Thanks xx

I’m not sure if there is an official rule… As a godfather, going forward until the child is an adult, your husband will probably give special gifts to the child that will be from him (not the whole family). It sounds like this gift will be a keepsake, so it might be extra meaningful for it to be engraved to the child from her godfather.

I assume the card says "happy christening" or something to that effect, and since those wishes will be from the whole family, I would vote that all names can be signed on the card.

My friends’ baby is four months old and they invited me to her Christening (family and close friend). Not sure what type of gift I should give? Money? Children’s books??

I would say give a sling carrier if they don’t already have one, they are very useful and come in all sorts of colors. Also childrens books would be an awesome idea! my daughter loved them when she was 4 months!

Have some ideas but was trying to different ideas for godmother/father gifts to give on the actual christening day.

There are a few cute godparents gifts that you can give!

If you want to give them a religious gift, you could give them a beautiful bible and write a note on the inside about how special it is to be a godparent –> this is a keepsake they can have for the rest of their life!

You could give them a savings bond that they could cash in when they are older.

If it is a girl, you can buy her a cross or an angel necklace to wear when she is old enough.

You could buy them a frame and get in engraved, and have a picture of you and the baby at the baptism.

I think all of these are really special, sentimental gifts that will be treasured by both the child and parents :)

We have a Christening to go to tomorrow afternoon and we have no idea what to give as a gift. It is my husband’s cousin’s baby, we only see this cousin at weddings and other family rare occasions. We have been told money is a good gift but we are newlyweds and don’t have all that much to spare. Is $25 alright to give or should we try to give more? any suggestions??

I think $25 is enough. If they have asked for money then I’d give them money. Theres only so many piggy banks and silver spoons a baby can have.

She is 4 months old….

A big ISA account for when she gets older.

Formally know as a PEP or TESSA.

That and screen all potential future boyfriends.

Why not buy a nice picture frame ? ~ That way the parents can select a picture from the Christening to put in it.

Or try a silver cup with the child’s name and the date of the Christening on it.

Or how about a gift card to the book store so the parents can select some books that they would like their child to have [this also reduces the risk of buying a book they already own]

Good luck
