Baby clothing or prayer rope or an icon of a saint with the child’s name thats pretty classic
I got invited to a friends christening for her kid. Would it look tacky to not bring a gift? I am broke right now but will bring a gift if it would be rude not too. If so what is a good gift in the $10-$15 range?
If you intend to attend the Christening, it would be somewhat rude not to bring anything. It doesn’t have to be expensive - personalized gifts, the ones made with love, are often appreciated even more.
If you have artistic abilities and/or are good at DIY, you can try to make a gift, be it a beautiful frame or baby chair, or anything else.
If, however, you prefer to buy something, there are a lot of things you could get in the $10-$15 range.
Here are a couple of ideas:
1. Baby’s First Year Photo Frame - available at most baby department stores or online
2. Ordinary photo frame or album - available at most baby department stores or online
3. Personalized Cutlery Set - available online and in stores
4. Personalized Keepsake Box - available at most baby department stores or online
5. Personalized Egg Cup and Spoon - available at most baby department stores or online (there are, of course, very expensive ones, however you can definitely get one in your range as well).
6. Personalized Fairy Books - available online
7. Cuddly toys - available everywhere (just make sure the toys have no sharp edges or anything that can cause allergies)
8. Baby cloths or bibs
9. Christening Candle (ordinary or personalized) - available everywhere (personalized ones may be easier to find online)
10. Personalized Piggy Bank
And for a bit of original thinking:
1. Name A Rose - available online and in baby department stores
2. Name a star - available online
3. Never Forget Gift (can be Never Forget Elephants or other toys, or just the traditional "baby book")
Use your imagination - gifts don’t have to be expensive to be appreciated!
Hope this helped.
Hi,
I’m about to be Godmother to my friends little boy next month and i’m finding it hard to think of what to buy as a gift for him because of his age, it’s so much easier to buy for a baby , like the usual silver christening gift , but i think he is too old for that kind of thing, Any ideas anyone ?
Go to things remebered they will have something you can personalize with his name and date. a Piggy bank or a snow globe is always nice. Or a savings bond
So my nephew is going to be christened in a few weeks and I’ve been knitting him a blanket as a random gift. Is it acceptable to give him the blanket as a christening gift? I know that those kinds of gifts are generally religious because it’s a religious ceremony. So is the blanket still a good gift specifically for the christening? thanks for the help!
Yes that sounds like a lovely gift, especially since you made it.
My friends are having their 1 year old boy christened soon, and I want to get a gift. However, they are flying in from a foreign country (where they now live) and so it can’t be big or heavy. Also, I don’t want to get some lame, useless silver spoon or whatever. They’re pretty good friends of mine, so it will have to be something nice & memorable! Any ideas for something interesting or unusual?
You could get a nice baby Bible. My twins got one at their Christening and I read it to them often
They also got a cross with their names engraved on them. I bought my daughter a cross necklace for when she gets older, and getting one for my son when I find one I like.
If you go to a Christain store, I’m sure you will find something or at least get more ideas
a grandson and a granddaughter are being baptised in march need any ideas as to what to get them as gifts for the occasion ?

We have been invited to a christening, are we supposed to bring a gift for the baby? if so, what kind of gift??
Yes. Baby Jesus got myrrh, frankincense and gold.
You can give money or a cake cutter with baby’s name on it, clothes, photo album etc
My family is Catholic so we have it easy with "The Catholic Bookstore". It is full of not only books but with sweet figurines and gift ideas.
My sister bought each of my kids a cross for their babtisms. She had them blessed by the priest as well which makes it extra special. I loved this gift! I hung it in each of there rooms and my two oldest kneel and pray to it.
Good luck - but remember, it’s the thought that counts!
I am travelling to Australia from Europe for my Godsons Christening. He will be 9 months old at the time. What sort of gift should i get him? Also, i am buying his outfit for the Ceremony, what should it look like? Should it be all white? His mother is young, and not into the whole long dress gowns that Babies used to wear…
Any ideas are appreciated!
Thanks!
traditionally the godmother (parents) bought the baptismal candle, the outfit, and a gift. (gets kinda pricey, doesn’t it?) i think the best gift is a child’s first bible, and it doesn’t need to be an expensive one. the one we got was child-friendly, with bright pictures and very short stories. (and, of course, a very sweet note inside from his godparents!) my boys all wore a snow-white dress shirt, pants, socks and shoes, with white-on-white patterned vest and matching bow tie. my mom sewed them so all the boys’ outfits were the same, but i found a website where you can order one. another great gift we received was a baptismal BIB! it protected his good outfit, but he was still lookin dapper! you could also buy a gold or silver cross necklace in a nice box… not to be worn but to to be carried by his wife on their wedding day.
This is my first time being a godmother and I’m so excited. I purchased my godson his outfit for his christening already. I was wondering what is else would be a good gift to get for him the day of his christening? Any suggestions would be appreciated
it’s usually tradition to get them a name bracelet for their christening with the date on the back
