I was talking baby showers with a friend, and she said that she hated when people got her clothing because it was like she couldn’t dress them how she wanted to dress them. I never actually thought about it since I’m not a mother. But it got me thinking, so now I’m curious with other peoples thoughts.
Thanks for answering!!

I think clothes would be one of the least liked. Simply because if they are ugly you still feel like you have to dress your baby in it when you are around that family member or friend that gave you the outfit lol

That and i always go nuts with buying clothes for my kids when im pregnant with them

I think the best best thing is diapers although some people give you the cheap parent choice ones and they just go unused because i used them on my niece when her parents would drop her off at our house and her butt was always so red i had to start keeping pampers in my closet for her i was only 15when that happened so i learned from that not to use parents choice lol

My baby shower is coming up this weekend i will be greatful for what ever gifts they shower baby with because after my daughter i had 3miscarriages and i sold and gave everything away that i had related to baby other then her first outfit and stuff like that but my crib and everything is gone and we are having a boy so its buy everything again lol

My brother & his fiance are expecting a little one in January, and I want to do all I can to help them out. So far I’ve bought some gender neutral (still don’t know whether it’s a boy or a girl) clothing and some blankets. I’m planning on purchasing a newborn to toddler rocker, a baby gym, some swaddling blankets, bathing supplies, and diapers. Any other ideas on what they may need?

Thanks in advance for the help!

The newborn to toddler rocker is a great idea… I personally use a swing alot for my son and a bouncy thing for him to play and get exercise in. Little things like teething rings and soft toys and books for the baby to play with are also great. I don’t know if they will be having a baby shower, but for mine I got alot of clothes and blankets and some bibs. Burp rags are always needed too!!! You can buy regular ones or just get cloth diapers and use those since they are larger and they work great. Maybe you can buy them a small stroller also… my son loves to sit in his while I cook or something and that way he can watch me and be safe too. Good luck and congrats on having a new niece/nephew!!

My friend is having a baby shower soon. She has all the basic necessities, and I don’t want to buy something useless. So I thought why not just give her some money she can spend on whatever else she may need. But I don’t know how much to give her. I don’t make much, so maybe $40?

A gift card would be better than just handing over cash.

My manager at work and his wife are expecting a baby boy and I want to get them something special and unique that no one else at the shower will bring. any ideas?

Based on the prior answers, I wouldn’t give a diaper bag. Women usually want to pick this out as there are many sizes and styles. The diaper cake is pretty old. For something unique, I would go with something personalized. It could be a photo frame, ornament, piggy bank, baby blanket, babies name in a frame, etc. This works only if they have picked out the name already because they know the sex of the baby. I ordered this piggy bank ornament for a friend’s shower - http://www.ornamentshop.com/order.asp?ProductKey=3518&cat=141. They also have personalized photo frames and piggy banks.

This is just a random thought cause i’ve never been to a baby shower before, but…what do people normally buy as gifts for baby showers?

What if 2 guests bought the same kinda things….I know expected couples can register for gifts…but what if there are more guests than gifts on the list….?

For a baby shower most people stick to the gift registry. And don’t worry about their being more guests than gifts, the amount of baby gear needed will surely exceed the # of guests. You can ensure you aren’t buying the same gift as someone else if you stick to the registry and make sure to tell the cashier to take the gift you’re buying off the list so no one else buys it. If you’re really paranoid about buying a duplicate gift, just give a gift card to the store where the new parents are registered instead. That way after the shower, they can go and buy anything off their own registry that didn’t get purchased.

I just had my baby shower last weekend and I registered at Target, Babies R Us, and Walmart. Nobody got anything off the Walmart registry and I did get a few off babies R Us but most people seem to shop at Target so I’d go with Target for sure. I’d register at Babies R Us as well because after your shower they said you a 10% off coupon for anything on your registry you didn’t get which can help you out a little afterwards. Congrats.

I’m giving my pregnant friend a gift for herself for her baby shower it has a bath robe, bath stuff, candles etc. I need a poem to go along with it anyone have any suggestions? Also I want it to say something like how its a time away from baby for herself or something like that thanks!!

Bottles and diapers and baby clothes too
But here is a present just for YOU!
Take care of baby, but you as well
Relax like you’re in a fancy hotel
Wrap in this robe and keep candles lit
Enjoy some "me time" when you see fit
Cuddle your baby and make her feel glad
But once in a while, just leave her with dad ;)

did you wait until you knew the gender, or did you register despite not knowing the sex?
I am not pregnant and not registering, so any comments to me about how I should not register make you look dumb for not reading this in full.

Yes I waited though some stuff I went ahead and got in unisex and once I found out the sex,I then added some of those things I wanted to my list(like blankets, sheets, clothes, etc)
Congrats…I am jealous..trying for #3 with no luck yet.

I was going to buy one of those plaques in the store, and order the name. But it seemed so impersonal. Anybody know of anyone who makes great crafts and could do that?

You should go with www.KarDarCreations.com The woman Kathy is wonderful. Her work is fantastic! She did a great job on my nephew’s name plate! It was such a conversation piece! Check out the website!
