am creating a basket for an upcoming baby shower and I am looking for dinosaur themed baby gifts. I would really prefer handmade or unique items. Suggestions?

my best friend is having a baby in a couple weeks, and she is having a baby shower, what gifts can you get her when you have a budget. I don’t have a job, for I am too young. So there is no way I can make money.
Any ideas??

How about a "blow-out" kit? You can easily go to Dollar Tree (if you have one there, or a similar store) to purchase everything you need for it. And can keep it under $10!! Here’s a general list for it–

Tote size bag
Wet wipes
receiving blankets
Couple "shirts" ($ store usually has onsies or t-shirts for babies)
Diaper trash bags (or even the cat litter box liners–personally I preferred these as they covered up the baby poop smells)
Baby toy (great for distraction when making a diaper change)

Right there should be plenty and you’re still under $10 including any tax that may apply. The purpose is to keep the bag in the car. This way if they parent(s) is/are out then they can quickly grab the bag and have everything in there they need (provided they include a diaper of their own).

Another thing you could do to save money is join your local Yahoo Freecycle group and ask for used items (if you’re too young to have a job, I’m going to assume you’re under 18, so you may need a parent to sign up–I think they ask for your birthdate can’t remember offhand). Everything on there is free. You’d just need someone to go pick it up for you, and it’s all local (within your county). You could ask for baby clothes, blankets, crib sheets (trust me, the mom will love to have a good stack of these!), baby swing (another lovely item)…anything baby related! It’s great because it’s all free, and is usually in close to new condition!

Coupon books work great too! Filled with things such as babysitting for free, helping to clean, offer to cook a few meals, or tend to the baby while mom/dad works on things or naps.

I have a friend whom had a baby boy that was stillborn at fullterm, she has since gotten pregnant and is going to have a baby girl. I am wanting to get a her a gift for the baby girl that would be a little memorial as well for her brother…..I am just not sure what to get, any suggestions? I know from experience of having two baby brothers die that I would have loved to have something to touch just with thier names on it…..it would have meant so much.
I love all the ideas, I love the build a bear the most so far…..let me ask this….do think the mom would be ok with that? It’s kind of a touchy subject….I mean do you think she would be offended if I got something for her new baby in rememberance kinda of the other baby….I think its sweet but I don’t want to do something that is a faux pas……I have never been in that situation and don’t know what to do.

When I lost a baby my mom got me a little necklace with a charm that had a baby footprint and the baby’s birthstone. I wore it for a year after my loss, and now keep it in a special box in my jewelry box.

About how much? We are curious as to whether or not we will have enough to begin a college fund for our daughter.
Thanks!

We mostly got gifts - but we got a small amount of money that we used to open a bank account for him. I have also set up an automatic transfer to his account each week too - just a small amount but it really adds up.

I’m a little torn on this subject. I’m constantly reading that it’s proper etiquette to open gifts at your baby shower however what if you have a baby registry and some people have sent the gifts to your home? If some people bring the gift and some send it to your home and you open the gifts, won’t the ones that send it to your home feel left out?

Ladies who have had a shower and have had a baby registry please comments and help me based on your experience. Thanks!

Usually the only presents sent to the house are from people that can’t make the shower.
I wouldn’t take the gifts to the shower, maybe if the shower was at my house I would open the presents at the shower. If I could wait that long.
After you open the presents at the shower say your thank you’s and say thanks for all the presents that were sent to the house.

My mom is throwing me a baby shower on Sept 13th and I want to get her a thank you gift but I want it to be sentimental. She has helped me out so much and has bought so many things for the baby already, if it wasnt for her I dont know what I do so I want it to be special. Does anyone have any suggestions??

You could make her a mother/daughter scrap book, full of pictures and mementos from your childhood with her. And then at the end you could include a letter, or even just a list, of all of the valuable things she has taught you about being a good mother.

I am planning a baby shower and the mother doesn’t want to have games and prizes. She just kinda wants to keep it simple. Should I make small gift bags for each guest instead or do nothing at all?

My best friend just had a baby shower. She didn’t want games either. She just stood up and said, "We’re not doing games. Everyone is welcome to start eating." I don’t think anyone was disappointed. We had food and cake, then watched her open gifts.

Don’t feel like you owe them something. Noone will be upset if they don’t get anything. People don’t come to showers expecting to leave with a gift.
