A good friend of mine just lost their first baby a week ago. She was approx. 21weeks along. She delivered him at the hospital but due to his lungs not being developed enough, he died - in her arms as she watched his tiny heartbeat fall from the 170’s to just 5 beats per minute. I am truly heartbroken for her and wasn’t able to attend her celebration service due to living over 1,100 miles away.
I want to send her something to let her know I’m thinking about her and want to make sure it isn’t out of taste! It’s the holidays, so I didn’t think "a box of cookies with a card" was too appropriate!
ANY suggestions would be SO helpful! If you’ve been in a similar situation with a friend or have lost a child yourself and received gifts, I would love to know what made YOU feel special and loved.

Thanks!!! :)
Honestly if you could go to her somehow and spend at least a couple days with her and give her a shoulder to cry on, i think this would mean more to her than anything. It is kinda hard to think of a present bc you dont know if she would want a present that reminds her of her baby or not.

My son just turned 6 months but at christmas he will be 8 months. I’m asking this question because me and my Hubby are not really into Christmas. Our apartment is 700 square feet and were minimalist and we could not imagine adding more Baby toys or gadgets to our home. When you have a Baby, Babies things tend to take over your Home. OK….so I was thinking 4 gifts.

A jumper with those little toys and trinkets on them( my son is super active and has been crawling since 5 months).
A play cell phone or remote (he loves playing with anything but his own toys).
Building blocks.
A couple of outfits and a pair or shoes.

I would feel horrible if we didn’t get him anything. Plus his grandparents and aunts will get him plenty.
Cathrl69…your so right LOL. Im in trouble. Hopefully we will have a house by then.
Jimmy…your right too!

The baby won’t care. That sounds fine. It really isn’t worth buying anything for a little baby’s Christmas present which you weren’t going to buy anyway - clothes and the next stage up of toys are ideal.

"we could not imagine adding more Baby toys or gadgets to our home"

Oh boy. Just you wait until he’s a toddler :)

I make my own one of a kind stuffies, and I am hoping to branch out. Aside from blankets and burp cloths I am having a hard time thinking of things that will not cost the customer a fortune, but I still have a chance to make money from.

If you’re in the US, you really need to read up on CPSIA, the Children’s Product Safety Improvement Act. It applies to goods intended for kids 12 and under, even sewn products, and the law has big sharp teeth and was not written with small business in mind *at all*.

I hate to rain on your parade, but you really do have to think about what this might mean for your business: http://www.fashion-incubator.com/category/cpsia/ and http://www.cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/cpsia.html Testing costs, once the stay of enforcement goes off, will be high.

I create gifts that resemble food items. For example diaper cakes which are diapers that are arranged to look like a tiered wedding cake, and sushi which is made of infant wash cloths and socks rolled up to look like sushi.

Right now I am focusing on baby gifts but I am branching out to children and adult gifts as well.

Does anyone have any clever business names?
Thank you for your name suggestions and business advice. I am still undecided on the name.

You need something that other people out here haven’t got obviously but also that they haven’t put in their search Meta tags…….something catchy & memorable. If you don’t advertise it right online you wont get anyone finding your online shop whatever you call it….found this out the hard way…
My web site took some time to get right not only from the actual making and writing but from the actual getting it into Google and other search engines above other people’s.
The real Computer wiz’s online might be able to help better but I was told it’s in the wording of your Meta Tags. for example you need to use a specific word, along with the Diaper cakes" something that makes yours stand out online against others offering the same thing.
So advertise your’s as Mixed diaper cakes or stunning home crafted diaper cakes etc it will be the stunning or hand made that will bring yours above another…..ask another question on Yahoo about Meta Tags as I say someone else on her might be able to explain it to you better….or have better advise on advertising online.
Good luck in your new business

I’m a Baptist, and our baptism traditions are a lot different from Lutherans. I also know that Lutheran churches tend to be more organized than ours. Next week I’m going to an infant baptism, so what is customary to wear? What kind of gift should I bring? Can you explain a little bit about their beliefs on baptisms?

Thanks! :)
The baptism may or may not be during a scheduled divine service.
If it is a private service, plan on it lasting about 20 minutes and just wear what you would wear to church.
If it is a divine service, plan on 60-70 minutes, and again, just what you would wear to your church.
Or ask, your friend what the normal dress is for their church.

Baptism -
We believe that in Baptism a child’s sinful nature is drowned, the Holy Spirit enters in with the water and the Word, and the child becomes a child of God. The parents and the Godparents will have various questions to answer, as will the congregation. The Godparent will hold the child while the pastor makes the sign of the cross over the child’s heart, and again, this time pouring water from the font, on the child’s head.

Holy Baptism is a sacrament for us…. a gift from God. Sacraments consist of a physical presence (the water), the Word of God (readings from the Bible), and forgiveness of sins, which comes with the entering in of the Holy Spirit.

For present…. Bible story books, wall cross, picture frame, stuffed animal, etc.
http://www.cph.org/c-13-children.aspx?REName=Shop%20by%20Category has some ideas. Just check out the local Christian book store… I’m sure they’ll be able to help as well.

I’m having a holiday meetup with some relatives, but the gift-giving situation is a bit complicated as some of them now have children. I know to give at least one gift per family, but the main question is: does a five-year-old get a separate gift? Also, one of the families has a two-year-old and an infant. Do they get separate gifts?

The last time any of the children have seen me, they were probably way too young to recognize me.

If it were ME in that situation, I would feel obligated to get a little something for the children. You don’t have to knock yourself out buying an expensive toy… I would think that something small like candy would be enough… or maybe an inexpensive ornament for the tree?

It is my mother’s birthday this weekend and I want to do something special for her that is specifically from my 7 month old son. Obviously, he can’t actually do anything or make anything himself but I am trying to think of something creative. I will most likely make a card and say it’s from him and maybe trace his hand on the card or something but any other ideas?

Trace his hands or put them in ink and "stamp" them onto paper-you could write "When a Baby is Born, So is a Grandmother" or something like that.

Matthew 2:1 indicates that the wise men came sometime after the birth of Jesus. It was not during His birth, as is customary to the nativity scenes that we are familar with. The event of the wise men more than likely took place after Jesus was dedicated to God in the temple. I’d say Jesus was about 2 years old when the wise men presented Him with gifts. In that case, Jesus was a todler not an infant. What is your view?

Note also that Matthew states the Magi visited them in "a house", not in a stable. It does seem to indicate that following their trip from Nazareth for their taxation, that they remained in Bethlehem. That was Joseph’s home town and his family was there. as Nazareth was a tiny place with only a couple hundred homes where their major industry was funerals (most of the "town" was graveyards), Joseph probably felt he had a better chance finding work and supporting his family in Bethlehem.

The idea of "2 years" came from Herod’s order to kill all male children up to that age. There is evidence to show the Quirinius was governor over Syria for his first term between 6 and 5 BC, and that Herod died in 4 BC. So Jesus could have been born as early as 6BC, lived in Bethlehem for a time, and the gone to Egypt until 4BC. How long he was in Egypt is also not given.

It appears the oldest that Jesus could have been when the Magi visited was 2. Born in 6 BC and fled in 4 BC to only be in Egypt for a few weeks before Herod died. For the trip to be worthwhile, he probably went to Egypt before he was 2. But he did not flee to Egypt the night of his birth.

If nothing else, he remained in the Jerusalem area for eight days so he could be circumcised at the temple, according to Luke 2.

Following their time in Egypt, Joseph was afraid to return to Bethlehem, so he and Mary returned to her home town of Nazareth instead. It was a obscure, out of the way place where they felt they could raise Jesus without anyone seeing them. Nobody went to Nazareth. It was in the middle of nowhere.
