My friend is hosting a baby shower for me and I had 2 questions. Is she supposed to buy me a gift on top of hosting the shower (id prefer her not do this since she has already spent so much on the shower) and do i buy her something for doing this for me? Do I buy thank you gifts for everyone who attends?

I wouldnt expect your friend to buy you a gift..if she wants to, then just be grateful and accept it. As for the gifts. I did little party favors that I gave out at mine, It was candy..or you can do something else..afterwards, just send out little thank you cards.

What I did was during the time i was opening presents at my babyshower, i had a friend writing down the gift and the person who gave it to me..so when i sent out my thank you cards, i made sure to thank them for the gift and specifically stating what the gift was..makes it more personal..

We are opening a baby boutique. Very southern, girl and boy items. Clothing, prissy bows And hats, tutus, soft blankets too much to list. It will be the go to place for all baby shower gifts. Having a hard time thinking of a unique name, any and all suggestions is appreciated! FYI- we are very over the top!!

Babychique

Beautiful Babes
Blankets, Bows & Babies
Babywinkle Boutique

Good luck, I love the idea of a baby boutique and I congratulate you on following your dreams!

Edit: I also thought you could maybe find the patron saint of babies (there are a few) and go with that.

Ex:
Zena’s Closet
The Innocents
Etc..

Just a thought!

I have know her for 12 years (We are 16)
I know she is young but her whole family, relatives and boyfriend are super supportive!
Anyways(:

I bought her
- Pajama set (top&bottom)
- Bath robe
- Little sunglasses
- Bikini (she is born in the early summer)
- Body wash
- Baby book
- Baby nail clippers

She already has alot of stuff and all our friends are going to the shower.
I’m young and don’t have experience with babies or alot of money.
She is bottle feeding though.
The bikini was only $2 and is adorable. She will be 4 months in August.

at my shower what i really enjoyed was the useful items. diapers in different sizes, wash cloths, soaps, diaper rash creams, bottles, Onesies in different sizes, nipples, breast pads(for breast feeding). although everything you bought is probably cute they cant put a baby in the sun(bikini)(sunglasses). pajamas are useful but they outgrow them so quick. body wash and nail clippers are the only things she can REALLY use often. Does she have a baby registry? always go off what they want. but people always get the cute clothes and i think essentials are more useful and important

My co-worker/friend is on her third pregnancy with her 3rd girl in roughly 2 years. None of which have been planned and she continuously whines about. She’s having her third baby shower for a third girl. I think it’s a little absurd to expect people to continue to buy for yet another girl, when she has tons of girl stuff already. On top of that she has yearly huge birthday bashes for each kid and I swear I’ve bought so many gifts for this family in the last 2 years.
On top of that she’s having her shower at a local restaurant where everyone is required to pay for their own meal. I think its kind of tacky to be honest. My husband has been out of work for 6 months and our financial situation is really tight, I told her that I would probably not be able to go to this shower as I cannot afford yet another gift and to pay for a huge meal out to which she responded via text with attitude and told another co-worker that I was a bitch if I didn’t show.
I was honest about my situation and the reason I declined? Thoughts on this?
@Cody: Thanks for your opinion. Saying that I’m broke is not a cop out, it’s the honest truth. We are struggling to keep lights on and groceries in the house so going to a 3rd girls baby shower in 2 years is not a priority of mine at this point. I think it’s crap to continue to pop out kids and expect others to support them. I have an almost 3 year old son and we’d love to be able to have another child right now, but I will not do that until we are financially stable because I do not expect others to support me with their funds and that is exactly what this person is doing. She is abusing her situation and taking advantage of people, especially asking everyone to bring a gift and pay for their own meal. That is bogus!

@Jillian.. I’ve been doing good, just slinking along. Caleb keeps me very busy. How are you?

She is being tacky. Especially in her response to your email. Though I don’t think you need to explain yourself. Just write her off. If she wishes to be this rude and materialistic then you don’t need to be anything else to her than a co-worker. As a true friend would not have been rude to you like that.

I personally feel in most cases that you get a shower for your first child. Different people do things a bit differently. And that is fine. But they should understand that showers are first and foremost for the celebration of the child and not about getting gifts.

I’ve spent around $2900 on my son, but I love my daughter so much more and I want to give her the perfect gifts that I know she’ll love. I know you might be jealous I have more money than you, but my kids are my top priority in life and I love them. BTW my son is 4 and my daughter is 2. I’m looking to spend around $4000 on my baby girl. :)
FAVOURITISM LOL

I recently went to a baby shower for a friend of mine thrown by her mother and grandmother. When I got there it just seemed really poorly put together, there wasn’t really any games just a baby themed crossword puzzle, and they didn’t have any food besides goldfish crackers and hersey kisses. It just seemed rude to not provide something a little more filling for their guests. Then on top of that they went around with a jar asking for money for the baby after we just spent money on gifts. This was the first baby shower I’ve ever gone to so I don’t have much experience and was wondering if anyone else thought it was rude.

I am with you. If you are going to invite people for a shower, it is the hostess job to provide at least something. I mean, really, how much would homemade cupcakes, chips and sodas cost. If nothing else, they could have reimbursed themselves from that incredibly thoughtless money jar!

It sounds like they were drumming for stuff rather than to share in the celebration.

Don’t etiquette rules apply to who is not supposed to throw showers for you? Mom and grandma?

Having a new baby this year I want to make a Christmas to remember. I want to give her something special that she will have in the years to come, as her first Christmas gift. I would like it to be something appropriate for her age but not over the top. I don’t like the idea of giving her clothes or jewelry, instead I would prefer something intimate and something that she will like to have in the future. If you have any original ideas please share them with me! Thanks.
How cute……… sock monkey, LOL! Keep the ideas coming!!!

Make her a sock monkey :) You can find the directions online.

My friend just had her son, I havent seen her in like a month, because life has kept up crazy busy but we still talk often! I worked at a daycare with her and her 6yr old daughter LOVED me. I had to resign at the daycare, and didnt get a chance to even say goodbye to any of the children! Her daughter especially took it really hard, I am going into the hospital and want to surprise both momma and her daughter with little gifts for each and her new son! I need ideas to get for a momma that just had her baby, a new big sister and the new little boy! HELP. little ideas anything that comes off the top of your head. would be great! (:

Thanks in Advance! (:

It may be cheezy but I like coordinating with my kids, so if someone got me and my kids matching shirts (and they don’t have to be the exact same style, just either similar or very close in color) I would totally love it. Anything personalized is also fantastic like a blanket for the new baby and maybe even a little blanket for the 6-year-old that says Big Sister on it. Hope this helps!
