I love to sew and have found some great blogs that have wonderful tutorials and patterns for girls dresses, skirts, etc and I love them but I was wondering if anyone knows of sites for boys clothes; not baby boys for like tween/teen. The girl tutorials are very modern, funky, and boutique-ish, I was looking for the same type trendy stuff for boys, like skater, punk, surfer, etc.
Thanks in advance for your help!
I posted this question to Craftovision. This sewing couple was previously with the now defunct Threadbangers site, which was really cool. They are branching into some different things now and maybe they can help. Hope you don’t mind. Maybe you could start a site with your young man.
Where do you buy your baby’s clothing? Please suggest stores that have good quality/trendy clothes with in a reasonable price. Please don’t suggest khols, jc penney, or walmart. I don’t like their clothes for boys. Help me please
Thanks for your help guys, will check them out!
Children’s Place, Carters and Old Navy have cute clothes. But, if you don’t like Khols or Penny’s you might not like these either. (I don’t like walmart clothes, either. Too cheaply made.) You could try online. Hannah Andersson has really nice things but they are kind of spendy.
I dress my 18 month old in what I consider to be nice clothes. (I’m not talking labels here, just pleasant looking high street clothes). I like buying him funky little outfits that are like miniature versions of what you might see on a teenager or adult. Never anything inappropriate, and I would never ever put aesthetics over comfort, all of his clothes are perfectly comfortable.
I’ve read a few people being criticised for this sort of thing before and I’ve had a couple of doses of it myself. For example, the other day there was a question about favourite outfits for your child or something, so I said my favourite clothes that he has are his four black rock bodysuits (of various bands), that he wears with jeans as t-shirts on warmer days. They look so cute in my opinion, but some people are of the opinion that it’s terrible to put black clothes on babies. I also said that I also liked it when he wears a pair of jeans and a white button up shirt (not a stiff ’smart’ shirt or anything, just a day shirt). Out of all the answers, I was the only one to receive thumbs downs.
I also had a comment the other day - he was wearing a deep pink and navy blue polo shirt - it was from the BOYS section and isn’t a girly style at all, despite the main colour being the pink. I’ve always thought boys look nice in pink, it’s the only pink thing he owns, and he isn’t old enough to get teased for it so I don’t see the problem. He was wearing it with a pair of light coloured jeans that were held up with a [necessary] belt (otherwise they fall down - he is thin and tall) - and the belt is black and white chequered like you see some teenage boys wearing. Obviously that outfit wouldn’t be everybody’s cup of tea but I think he looked gorgeous and as I said, he’s too young for being teased - I’ll stick to spiderman tops and whatnot when he’s older I’m sure! But anyway we were at a play centre and a bitchy woman actually came over to me and asked is that your kid and proceeded to tell me I was pathetic for dressing him in trendy clothes and that I must be very shallow. Please note I had done NOTHING to her, she just came over to me and said that off her own back! Her children were all wearing clothes resembling pyjamas, but I wouldn’t dream of judging her for it!
Why do some people have an issue with it? I could understand if I was putting him in really tight or stiff or uncomfortable outfits. But they’re no less comfortable than anything, they simply look ‘fashionable’. I by no means think it’s important, and I’d dress him in a sweatsuit in a minute if I thought it would make him any happier. But when it makes no difference to him - what exactly is the problem? Why would I walk into a shop and buy something I prefer less when it is no more comfortable and no more advantageous to him? Does this really make me shallow?
Oh there just jealous, screw them!!!!!!
What’s wrong with black or pink? My son wears both! I like pink on boys to, it’s not like it was a girly shirt. My son has like three of the shirts you were talking about. One is brown and pink stripes, one is blue and pink stripes and the other is something and pink. They are all polos and he looks so cute in them. He also wears his with cute blue jeans and a belt. And my son is 5 and he wore these outfits to pre-k alot last year and no one ever made fun of him!
And no you don’t look shallow : )
Okay, I’m looking for a variety of online baby clothing stores. I don’t want to buy the traditional Walmart or other department store onesies etc, if you know what I mean.
I’m looking for really unique and hip, kind of "sophisticated" baby clothing. I hope you get what I mean, I want her to be dressed in trendy clothing, that perhaps doesn’t look like traditional and cheap baby clothes. I’m kind of going for a more sophisticated and more expensive wardrobe with FEWER pieces, than the normal baby wardrobe, which has many many clothes that are rather cheap cost wise.
I don’t mind if it’s branded or not, but preferably not too expensive, probably less than $50 per piece, depending on what it is.
Thank you so much…
I’m actually a fashion major, so I do know how to sew. I was actually just creating a cute little outfit yesterday, so I do know that sewing is a great idea, and it does save a lot of money!
As for the $50, it’s just a general idea, but we would like to stay around that price range. I would say we could spend about $150 to $200 on a few items, perhaps a designer labelled dress and coat for special occasions, so Saks Fifth Avenue would be great for that. But I doubt we could afford an entire wardrobe at that price…
Thanks everyone so far.
I think your best bet for buying sophisticated baby clothing is a high end department store like Barneys or Saks Fifth Avenue, although I doubt you’ll find many items under your $50 budget. Everything else tends to be pretty generic. My sister’s friend, Gina, actually just started making her own baby clothes. Gina had a similar goal, to have her infant daughter look as stylish as she does when they were out, but she couldn’t find a good source for unique clothes. She checked out this website:
http://9b18fgn2q8ndjaf77zz3z95va2.hop.clickbank.net/
and learned how to sew her own baby clothes. Now her daughter is as stylish as her fashion savvy mother, and she’s not a full time tailor, but she’s fixed up a couple pairs of pants and zippers for me. If you don’t know how to sew, I encourage you to try; it’s not as hard as I’d imagined, and Gina claims the books she bought paid for themselves with all the money she’s saved making her daughter’s clothes.
Good luck.
I can’t stand the old fashioned ugly maternity clothing. I am pregnant and "was" wearing a size 3-5 Jr’s. My jeans are starting to get tough to button up already at 5 weeks. Can you get away with leggings or something, even if it is cold? I gain baby weight in the belly and boobs area only. LOL
What are some of the best stores to buy trendy looking maternity wear? ( affordable is a bonus also)
Thanks!
OMG I did not proofread my own title guys! I meant to type "BUY"
Sorry!!!!
A Pea in the Pod–young very cute
Motherhood–cheap, kind of ugly
Target-cute pants
Khols-have to search but have a few cute things
Ok. So we don’t have a lot of money and as talented as I believe I am when it comes to art and creativity I just don’t want to flop, you know? So I don’t want to go out and pull out a small business loan or anything like that. I’m going to sell online and make the clothes at home. I think they’re going to be awesome. Really trendy and new. I can’t decide on how much to spend! I found TONS of fabric I love and I don’t know how often they come and go or if I’ll ever see the same thing twice. What if I buy something in particuar and people LOVE it? So I guess I don’t know how many yards to buy because I don’t know how many outfits I should start out with… Any experience out there or input or advice or even just an incoherent mumble?
You can sell them on etsy.com its a place where you can sell handmade stuff.
Good luck
I’m a plus size girl myself who typically wears an XL or XXL (they differ in each store) and it’s already hard enough for me to find cute trendy clothes for a decent price in my size as it is! I have a few peers at my school that are much bigger than me (not trying to be mean) who seem to wear 3XL+ clothing, but have CUTER, way more flattering clothes than I do! I asked them where they shopped and they said…Aeropostal (even tho I’ve never seen them wear not one single item from the store), Dereon, Baby Phat, Charlotte Russe (even I can’t really fit their clothes).
So where could they possibly buy their clothes from? A trendy, cute place with plus size clothes…hmmm…
torrid is not cheap
curvy girls are beautiful ;D I’m losing weight to become less curvy, but I’m still gonna try to hang on to these awesome curvy hips I have~ haha
I don’t mean to be rude, but I’m very positive that a girl who is 3XL+ does NOT shop at Aero or any of those other stores. I myself am a curvy girl, normally wearing L or XL shirts (sometimes XXL too, depending on the store and type of shirt I’m purchasing), and I definitely have a hard time finding clothes in those stores.
I personally like to shop at JCPenney, because even being a curvy girl I can still wear most of the juniors shirts in XL or XXL, depending on the style. Then I go to the women’s and buy jeans. I just look as hard as I can for cute jeans. I would also recommend Lane Bryant (they *ocassionally* have cute clothes, it depends what your local store is like). I love Dillard’s too. Department stores are good. Even American Eagle occassionally has tops I can wear (not jeans though lol).
Hmm, where else? Cato! I LOVE that store. I always find cute clothes there. Check it out.
I definitely know how you feel though. It’s difficult being a plus size girl, but remember these 2 things - 1) Be THANKFUL for your curves! Guys I know love girls with a butt and more curves rather than a skinny toothpick! and 2) It is not impossible to find cute, flattering clothes even if you are not a size 2, or even a 16!
I hope I helped you out. I realize that you didn’t exactly ask where you should shop at, but I thought I’d tell you anyway where you can find cute clothes even as a plus size girl. Maybe some of those girls shop at those places too!
actually I want to look my age because everyone says I look older. I am 13 years old and in 8th grade. frequently I get mistaken for being in college or high school. and once I got asked if that kid in my lap is mine (I was babysitting my cousin’s baby in a ski lodge while she was skiing). Someone thought I was my dad’s wife once. I also get hit on by guys way too old for me. Its awkward and I would really like to look my age.
I try to stay away from trendy clothes (meaning I don’t wear abercrombie and fitch or aeropostale) and I always wear make-up. I am tall but never wear heels unless with a dress and I rarely wear those.
So any ideas?? I would really appreciate it
my make up is natural ish for the most part. light, neutral shadow, thin top lid only liner, and little mascara. hint of foundation and no lipstick or gloss
Try wearing your hair in pigtails or braids. Also don’t wear much makeup, try to keep it a natural look. If you have bigger boobs try wearing a sports bra and t-shirts, then your boobs wont look as big so you won’t look as mature. Try looking at pictures of kids your age and mimicking the kind of clothes they wear. Oh, make sure you wear sunscreen too. It will protect your skin and hopefully keep it looking young.
