How many clothing pieces per size/months would you suggest a new mom purchase to prepare for her newborn?

I am not expecting any gifts, my husband and I are on our own. I know babies grow fast. I don’t want to buy to many but I also know that they’ll wear more than one onsie in a day. How many do you suggest? I was thinking about getting ten onsies, one cute outfit and three sleepwear per size for the first year. Too much, not enough? Thank you! :)
I really didn’t end up using all the onsies I got. They will want their feet covered, so I recommend footed sleepers. 2 a day, as much as you need to get the laundry done.

You may need a onsie for going out in hot weather, but our twins were almost always in footed sleepers, despite all the other clothes we had. A onsie doesn’t keep them warm enough, and their feet get cold.

I really think for newborn and even for 0-3 you can get by just with footed sleepers. Really as few as 6 of each size. Just do laundry every couple days or so.

I bought for the whole year and don’t regret it. I bought very cheap though at a local thrift store. I would recommend buying for the first 6 months, you may not have time later. But I really find sleepwear makes the most sense. A newborn sleeps about 20 hours a day, a 6 month old 15 hours a day. They sleep every couple of hours. Sleep is what they do. After 3 months they can regulate their temperature enough to use more onsies etc. but I really can’t see putting a newborn down without a sleeper on. And for skin to skin contact, just have them wear a diaper only. Then put on the sleeper to lay them down for nap.

10ten onsies, 2 cute outfits and 4 sleepwear would be good, also get a few soft hats for your newborn as most heat is lost from the head

Don’t buy everything for the 1st year now. Wait and buy as he grows (some babies grow a lot faster then others).
For the newborn stage 8-10 onsies and a 3 sleepers would be enough. My daughter never actually wore newborn clothes bc she was too big for most of them.
For 0-3 month you should buy several outfits (nothing to complicated), several sleepers and maybe 5 or 6 onsies.

Not enough maybe 15 onsies 10 sleepers in 2 or 3 sizes and maybe 3 cute outfits
i know sounds like a lot but babies grow really fast. And they also spit up even more. I found myself changing my son outfit when he was a newborn at least 2 or 3 times and now that hes 4 1/2 months at least 4 times.

I would suggest to just buy clothes for the season that you’re in. That way you won’t have clothes that you can’t use because they’re wrong size and wrong season. You’re right that babies do grow fast and it’s hard to predict what size they’ll be in throughout the year. My baby, for example, is 6 months but he’s in 9 months clothes and I’m starting to look for fall/winter clothes for him.
Anyways, as far as newborn stuff goes. He was born in February. I never used onesies for him. I didn’t like how exposed it left him and I thought that it was too cold. I had about 10 sleepers for him, and 2 cute outfits when he was that small.

No mom its not enough you will need to get more cloths. The size depend on how big is the baby you can find that out by asking when you get a sonogram. Some baby are so small that they will fit into preemie cloths for about there first month. My first son was 7pounds and 11oz and 19inches so i have to get him 0-3months and due to the fact that they grow fast as you know i got him 3-6 and 6-9… a lot of onsies, alot of outfits remember they pill there milk alot and will dirty there cloths.. So i say about 15-20 oneis,5-10 outfits and 6-14 sleepwear.. Remember having a baby ain’ t cheap. Congrats

Depending on when your baby is born - I’d increase the number of sleepers. My daughter mostly wore sleepers for 3 months. I had about 8-10 sleepers in the 0-3 month size. Generally, it is sort of up to you… having more clothes just means that you’ll have to do laundry less often.

like everyone said DONT buy for a whole year… buy in the season your baby is going to be born…. buy a FEW 3-6mths most babys can wear those pretty soon and stay in them a while….

    avoid newborn…. get 0-3mth

get more sleeper then onsies… as sleeper are great for going out if the weather is cooler… with a onsie youd need to put on a pair of pants if its not hot out…

wait to buy a cute outfit till the babys here… then get on in a size youll know hell wear a bit… and you can get pics done in it if you want…

for a baby i would have 10 sleepers 4 in 0-3 and 6 in 3-6 have 6 onsies 3 0-3 and 3 3-6.. 2 pairs of paints netrul color as to go with all the onsies.. 1 package of socks (bigger socks will last longer they go up higher on the leg but if you cutting corners socks are a great place buy bigger, might last 8-12 mths with just 1 package of socks… and if you buy white, you dont have to worry about a lost sock resulting in a siglton unusable sock)

and a few larger blankes 2-4… i would avouid the reciving ones.. they are good, for wiping spitup and spills, and other odds and ends.. but bigger blankets are good for spreading out to lay baby on or wraping the baby in for cuddles or draping over the car seat to block sun or wind.. and for breast feeding….

my son wore the same outfit all day… he didnt blow out his diapers and he wore a bib if he was drooling (he started teething st 3 mths) my daughter would go thro 3 outfits a day becuse shed blowout… so not all babys need more then 1 out fit

i had 6 sleepers in NB until my daughter grew out of them at 2 months. I bough 6 more sleepers in 0-3 months and she outgrew them in 2 weeks. (by length not weight). i bought her the gerber sleep n plays (the zip up ones) and she wears size 3-6 months. she’ll be 3 months old on the 29th. she grew about 5 inches since birth. but thats just the gerber brand. the other sleeper brands i have are size 9 months because of the length.

i would go with 10 onsies 0-3 months and about 5 NB. you never know what size your baby will be. if he/she weighs more than 8 or 9 pounds chances are cant fit a NB size and you dont want to waste your money on clothes that cant be worn

not all babies wear more than one outfit a day. my 6week old daughter wears one. when shes eating, shes wearing a bib. the only reason i will change her outfit is if 1. it gets really hot or really cold or 2 if she just took a bath or 3 if she make a mess.
my husband and i didn’t buy any clothes. we got all of ours from baby showers and a friend with a 2yr old that saved all her clothes. so we have a bunch.
depending on how often you do laundry i recommend 7 onesies, 7 sleepers, and a pack of socks to go with onesies for laundry done once a week and bibs at every meal.
