Anyone change their baby’s name at the last minute?

I am 7 months pregnant. I made a big mistake at answering the constant question "what are you going to name the baby?" I always answered "most likely Jude" or "probably Jude" but apparently if you say a name even if you add "most likely" or "probably" to it people tend to ignore that part. When people call me they say hows baby Jude or my friends will try to talk to my belly and say "jude! what are you doing?kick for me, jude!" When I come over to my parents, even though he is still in my stomach my parents say "Jude’s here!" Now every time someone says it or asks me about his name it just doesn’t sound or feel right. Elijah feels right. What if I change my mind? I don’t want to tell anyone the new name in chance that I change my mind again (i don’t think that will happen) but I probably should tell them I have changed his name because of the chance someone will buy me something monogrammed at my shower. Almost feels like it would be easier to leave his name the way it is just to avoid dealing with my friends and family’s questioning. What should I do?

Tell them that you’ve decided you don’t like Jude anymore. But don’t tell them that you’ve picked out a new name yet. That way poor Elijah isn’t stuck with a bunch of stuff that says "Jude" on it. My parents changed my name the day before I was born. It happens all the time.

Next time someone says something about "Jude" just say "Actually, I’m not so sure about that name anymore!"
The baby isn’t born yet, so nothing is official. If Elijah feels right, then use Elijah.

    Your baby your prerogative.
    They’ll get over it.
I changed my mind a thousand times on my daughter’s name before she was born and i was VERY lucky that when i did get personal stuff at my baby shower we had finally settled on the name we wanted for good, so no issues there..but yeah, my parents were funny about it. they would call and say, "okay so what’s her name today?". obviously just joking w/me of course.

but NEVER give in because you think it would be "easier" on other people, this is your child and you and your child will have to live w/the name forever, not your friends, not your extended family….they are there to love and cherish your baby…not name him.

Just say to them that you are considering Jude but also like other names like Elijah, that way they know that you are unsure and won’t buy something with the name on it.

I was convinced my baby was going to be called RJ (Richard Joel) but then a couple of weeks before I gave birth I changed my mind and named him Miles instead, I now couldn’t imagine him being called RJ.

It’s totally fine to change the babys name at the last minute. I was going to be called Teresa until I was just born.

I wouldn’t worry about it. People just like something to call the baby other than "it." For all you know they might think, "Oh, thank God she didn’t call ‘em Jude!" People are just being nice calling your "it" Jude. It doesn’t mean your committed to the name.

Also, you can run the question by them, "Which do you like better for the baby, Jude or Elijah?" Most people jump on the new choice, odd human nature.

Well, I can tell this is your first child. So congrats. The thing that I did when I was pregnant with my first(As well as the other 3). Is I didnt tell anyone the names I had chosen. It then gave NO one the chance to tell me whether they think its hidious or not. And also didnt cause your situation. But it is up to you. If you don’t want your baby to be named Jude than don’t. Your friends and family will get used to it. Don’t worry about them. My sister changed her mind a total of 17 times before she settled on Roseanne Nicole, and she decided that when she went into labor. the whole family got to the hospital and were all talking about Amelia Rose. LOL. Its upto you. My family adapted to my sisters choice. No worries. :)
If you think Elijah is better suited, than go with Elijah. :)

One of my friend’s changed her mind the week after her little boy was born lol. My cousin changed her sons middle name the day he was born, we all thought he’d be Dylan Joseph but he’s now Dylan Joe, good job I just went with a padded letter D for a gift, instead of his full name on a blanket like I originally thought.
Whatever feels right to you, go with that :)

I think Elijah is a wonderful name, and Elijah Jude would be adorable.
It’s your baby, name him what you like, if you want a different name then go with it.
My mother didn’t like my daughter’s middle name, but we knew it was right for her and it stayed, she now thinks it suits her perfectly.

    xx

I did not have a real good idea what I was going to name my daughter until I was 8 months pregnant, even then I did not commit to that name, but I did end up using it.

I did not tell anyone what I was going to name her for many reasons. I did not want any criticism, I wanted the freedom to change my mind, and I wanted it to be a surprise.

You can name your baby whatever you want! This is your baby and it will be his name forever, do what you think is best. Do not name him something just because you want to avoid the questioning.
