anyone have a good idea for a useful unique baby shower gift? I am willing to spend up to 40 dollars, she already has a ton of clothes, diapers baby lotion etc.. would like to get something very useful and not so popular, any suggestions?
We got some great ones at our baby shower(s). We have a 3 year old little girl and nine month old boy. There were three gifts that stood out above the others because they were so useful and also unique.
1) Me Too Seat
2) BabyLegs - adorable and useful- they are great!!
3) Little Giraffe blankets
The BabyLegs are around $12 a pair. The blanket and seat are around $50.
We wrote an eHow article about what is great about all of these. We actually titled the tip article - How to Find Unique Baby Shower Gifts. So when I saw your question, i had to answer : ). There are links at the end of the article to each products main website (not sales sites) just the corporate site so you can check them out. I have no affilation to any of these products - we just loved them and more important we use them, daily. Take a look at the article if you wish. Pick a good one, you’ll make someone’s day!!

Everyone buys for the new born baby. But when the parents really need help is a few months later. But stuff in older sizes, diapers, clothes, toys, maybe make a basket, but make sure it’s stuff for 6-12 months. Because you already know what season it will be you can buy stuff now, and when the time comes those parents will be so greatful they had SOMETHING for the later months.

I always like to get new parents a medicine kit. You can buy them already put together by Little Remedies or from Johnson and Johnson. But I like to make my own. I generally buy: Tylenol, Orajel, Gripe Water, Gas Drops, and Saline Drops (maybe a small teether). I buy a little case to put everything in. It’s a good idea because new parents don’t often think of these things, and you never ever know when you’re going to first need them. You don’t want to have to run out in the middle of the night.
Good luck!

Offer your baby sitting services and/or a gift certificate to a nice restaurant. After a couple of weeks/months with baby, any couple is going to NEED to get out and reconnect.

Someone got us a "sleepy sheep" - a stuffed animal that plays white noise. IT was very good for calming DD when she was a newborn, and I still hang it by her crib to play white noise for naps now that she is a bit older. It has a velcro strap to hang from crib, carseat, etc. I think it was about $30 on Amazon.
A thing that we did not get that would have been useful is a swaddling sack - the blankets with velcro, etc for swaddling. DD got out of just regular blankets so easily that we had to give up swaddling her after 1 month, where it probably would have been helpful to an older age

You could make a blanket. That’s what I do, either quilting or knitting.
If you don’t have time.. I suggest books.
I read to my newborn all the time. It was really great for bonding and she really loves books.
You could get some really sweet books about a mother’s love - ‘I’ll Love You Forever’ - classic!! I still cry.
Ohh!!! I have a great one.
The baby is young but they might still be fun.
You can print out 5 tiny pictures of each family member (mom, dad, brother? ect.) and place them on play blocks. One of the sides will say ‘Mom’ or ‘Dad’ or ‘Jake (brother)’ - my friend did this for our other friends two year old’s birthday - he loved them! (and mysteriously lost the little brother’s block). heehee
Other than this.. you could buy a diaper bag and put all kinds of nice things for the mother in it. It could be creams and shampoos and soaps ect. - nice things for her! (and maybe her favorite snack).
Do they have hats and sandals for the baby? it’s going to be summer soon
Good Luck finding something!! it’s really thoughtful of you to go thru so much.
